UNR.edu is the flagship website of the University of Nevada, Reno. The current version of this site is a complete rebuild, built in-house, and launched in February 2019. The purpose of this rebuild was to develop a 100% accessible website by meeting or exceeding the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) standards.
As a Website Interface Designer of the web development team, we are tasked with creating audience-focused, accessible website experiences through user research, testing and modern web development practices, resulting in an industry-leading, award winning University website.
The "Age of COVID" ... large and small gatherings and events were canceled. This included the graduation and celebrations for the Class of 2020. I was tasked with brainstorming and coming up with a virtual solution that would allow the University to recognise and celebrate our 2020 graduates. These pages were the result and had an overwhelming response from the graduates themselves, their parents, family, and friends. All the pages went live the week of graduation, May 14,15, and 16. Just in those three days, these pages had more than 60,000 visitors.
The idea sprung from the concept of a highschool yearbook but with an added feature of having a profile page for each individual graduate. The Class of 2020 was more than 3,500 students.
The listings page allowed Colleges and Schools within the University to display all their 2020 graduates, by name, with a photo, and degree of the graduate. The profile page would display not only the information from the listing page but also up to four images in an interactive photo gallery, a personal message from the student, and any awards, recognitions, and honors the student may have received.
